On Plastic, after a writeup was voted on within the submission queue and accepted by an editor, it would be moved to the front page.

There, casual visitors could select the article and go to a page containing the full text of the article. Registered users could sign in and add their own commentary below the article. When threaded, with responses clearly following parent comments, this could result in discussion.

Comments could be moderated up or down depending on how on-topic, incisive, or amusing the reader thought they were.
